Internal vs. Direct Traffic
In the Referrers section of your Parse.ly dashboard, you can see how much of your traffic is internal or direct.
Internal traffic is generated when a user arrives at a post by clicking a link from somewhere else on your own site.
Direct traffic represents traffic without a referrer. Links from email, IM, some apps, and bookmarks all have missing referrer data. Here are some examples:
- When a user enters a URL into their browser’s address bar and lands on your site without a referrer.
- If a user clicks a bookmarked link to your site.
- Certain search engines, including Yahoo and DuckDuckGo will strip referrer information when a user clicks a link from search results to land on your site. Sites using https do not include referrer information.
- A user visits your site from a newsletter.
