At Parse.ly, Matt works on prototyping and developing systems using machine learning and natural language processing, with a focus on applying cutting-edge research to real-world problems.
His initial field of study was genetics and computational biology. He represented his home country of Ireland in the International Biology Olympiads before becoming a postgraduate student. There, he launched and managed a project to identify the DNA mutations causing disease across the national Irish retinal degeneration patient population. In the last few years, he's switched his focus to machine learning, which included a stint working in computer vision and automated driving. He ended up at Parse.ly in 2018, where he now has enough data and interesting problems to keep him sated for some time to come.
