Principal Software Engineer
Dan studied Computer Science and Linguistics at the University of Delaware, where he received Masters degrees in both areas. While at UD, his research focused on modeling how infants learn segment speech into words. His professional software career began at Educational Testing Service (ETS), where, as a Research Engineer, he worked on automated written response scoring for the four years prior to joining Parse.ly.
He also maintains the Python character encoding detection library, chardet, which is used internally by requests and many other popular Python modules.
